hi missycute, welcome to the forum!

regarding your post, "Foreigners grab whatever job comes their way so long as the pay is GOOD even they are OVER QUALIFIED!", i guess this applies not only to foreigners but also to anyone that badly needs a job. i'd say practicality comes first, especially to those who have a family to support so generally, this applies to anyone, locals or foreigners alike.

my two cents worth. smile

data_gurl what is your views with your own question??? are you a LOCAL or also a FOREIGNER???

hi chui_and_Kuthchie, welcome to the forum by the way!smile

to tell you the truth, i'm a foreigner and i find it hard to take either sides, both from my fellow foreigners and the locals.

from a point of view of a foreigner, its regrettable to find that some of the locals, and i mean only SOME, not all or majority of them, see us as "shameless and greedy" accroding to that article i just posted. we're just here to look for a decent job and to do out best, just like some of the singaporeans are back in the United States or in any other foreign country. we're not intentionally "stealing" jobs from the locals, the offers were made by the companies here, we have no power in controlling their decisions other than showing them our skills and our strengths.

on the other hand, i do understand that its quite unsettling to find lots of business owners here in singapore, hiring more foreigners and apparently, paying them more than that of the locals. as a local, i'd feel a bit cheated too, this is your country, what do foreigners have that some of the locals can't offer? why would they hire more foreigners than that of locals, i'd think i'd have in mind too.

but not to the point of condemning us, of blaming us for job losses of the locals, of telling us that we're "ungrateful, greedy and shameless."

my two cents worth.

http://www.temasekreview.com/2010/09/16/singaporeans-recruiters-should-employ-singaporeans-first/

"Being a Singapore employment agency and Singaporeans, I urge you and your Singapore clients to employ Singaporeans only.

Last week, our SM Goh asked the PRs to be Singaporeans or their PRs will not be renewed, All PRs and foreigners say they are here to “make money only” and will retire in their home countries.

They are not interested to be Singapore Citizens. They are here to exploit Singapore and its people. They steal Our jobs created by our government / companies, enjoy government subsidies for long time as though we owe them a living. They are so Shameless and Greedy to ask our government for “Dual Citizenships” so that they can enjoy more subsidies at the expense of Singaporeans. They simply refuse to give up their countries citizenships and continue to enjoy the best of both world. They are more Greedy than Singaporeans. For any decent person, if you are in other country / friend’s house, will you dare to ask so much ??? Nobody owes them a living so is our Government and Singaporeans."

thoughts?

i think they hire foreigners mostly because locals tend to job-hop to much. also compared to the locals, the foreigners are quite hardworking and are very flexible.

foreigners are hard working, since they value their job. most foreigners are "skilled" and equipped with good communication skills.

I dont think you can base it on who works harder/better. It really depends on the position, how "typical" or "unusual" the job is and the availabily of that talent in the market. Some companies, even local ones, may choose to hire a foreigner because he has already done a specific skill that you wouldnt ever find in the local market (especially in IT, Engineering).

The main reason why they hire foreign workers is because most of the locals are kinda choosy on their type of job. They try to look for another job who can offer a higher rate of salary.

do you think business owners here in singapore mostly hire foreigners because of the cheap labor or because foreigners, especially the white-collar workers (professionals, educated individuals) are more hard working and are more effective in their job than their local counterparts?
