i can't remember the title of the article but i've actually read about a man buying a software program because of the hype, not because he'd like to try it out or he really wants to buy and use it. and this man doesn't know a thing about computers!
apparently the advertising company that was hired to promote the company's software program was so good at it that they were able to convince non-users to try and buy the program. it was a huge advertising success and all because of the image created by that advertising agency.
but i also personally know of a couple of companies who are not focused on creating an image but more on the services that they offer. you might say it might depend in the industry, but the company i'm referring to is a design agency. and one would expect that a design-based company would be working more on their image, right? well, apparently, this doesn't and still they're moderately succesful.
yes it is. there are a lot of companies that basically offer the same products and services but what differentiates them is their image. for example, one clothing company might be catering to a young, hip-hop crowd, the other to a goth-looking crowd, so you're image should be relevant to that market you're targeting. and it's all about the image.
of course it's a requirement. but i do know of certain small companies who are already in good, long terms with their clients that it doesn't matter what kind of "image" they're projecting. as long as the work is excellently done and done on time, i guess it wouldn't matter to some.
but for the MNC's, i think image is really important.
